How to Care for Hair - Hair Care Tips

Written By Unknown on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 | 12:12 AM

Hair plays an essential role in every individual’s life. It can transform a person’s appearance to a great extent. It can be twisted and rolled, curled and straightened, colored and can make various styles to keep up with the changing fashion trends. But one needs to take a great care of hair to keep them healthy. To prevent hair from falling, dandruff and breakage, they need healthy diet and better hygiene. Poor diet, illness and deficiencies of any particular vitamin and mineral affect the quality of hair and troubles like dandruff, thinning hair, balding, premature graying etc. which tear down the hair.
How you care for your hair is essential. Luckily, hair breakage can be both prevented and treated. Diet and lifestyle are two major factors that manipulate the health of the hair. So here are the few ABCs for having excellent hair.
  • Eat healthy food that helps the hair in staying strong and shiny. Your diet can also stop hair loss. Poor dietary intake can cause the hair to fall out. Eat a healthy, well-balanced diet to prevent hair breakage. Lean proteins, fruits, raw vegetables, whole grains, legumes, omega-3 fatty acids found in salmon or flaxseed oil and dairy products will keep hair at its healthiest. Drink plenty of water.
  • Use more natural hair care products like shikakai, lemon, coconut oil, vinegar etc. for hair care. Rinse dry hair in lemon juice to get back the lost shine. Mix apple cider vinegar with water to get shiny and bouncy hair. Apply honey on your scalp to solve the problem of tangled and frizzy hair. Mix honey in two cups of fresh cream to create an excellent natural hair product for dry hair.
  • Always use a natural and mild shampoo and conditioner that restrain ingredients such as keratin, rosemary, plant proteins and seaweed extract. It is important to wash your hair because shampooing removes dirt, dead skin cells, hair oils, and any hair products you may put into your hair. Use a conditioner after shampooing; it’ll moisturize your hair, give it extra shield, add shine, reduce static, and makes it easier to untangle.
  • Change your beauty treatment around your hair. Use a wide-toothed comb to detangle wet hair instead of brushing it. At all times use brushes or combs with widely spaced bristles or teeth and smooth tips. Sharp tooth combs can damage your hair, cause split ends, and rub your scalp.  Hair is most brittle when it is wet so avoid brushing or combing when it’s wet, or else it will cause breakage. Wait until your hair is entirely dry before brushing it.  Reduce the use of chemicals in your hair, particularly gels, perms, dyes, or bleaches.
  • Dry your hair with minimal heat. This hair care tip is one that everyone should follow because extreme heat will damage most hair. Lessen the frequency or intensity of heat used from blow-dryers, flat irons, and curling irons. Hot air can be injurious to your hair so when using a hair dryer use the cool setting.
  • In a day brush your hair for 3-4 times on a regular basis in order to stimulate your scalp. The stimulation of your scalp is what promotes the natural oils in it to allocate equally and also removes dead scalp tissue. This hair care tip is particularly important to people who suffer from extreme dandruff, regular brushing will help keep dandruff under control. Just remember to do it with a quality hairbrush, specifically one with natural bristles.
  • Get your hair trimmed off every month. Every 30 days, cut about a 1/8 of the ends of your hair off in order to promote its growth and shed dead ends. You will see that this even helps ease your ability to style your hair.

Hair Loss Remedies

Written By Unknown on Sunday, September 30, 2012 | 10:26 AM

A variety of products and treatments claim that they can naturally prevent or reverse hair loss. Although many people swear by these products for hair loss and there may very well be some natural hair loss remedies out there that could work for some people, they are not FDA-approved and there are no scientific data on them. There has been no clinical research to prove that these remedies work in the long term.

Although there are many causes to hair loss, hereditary hair loss (androgenic alopecia) is genetic. Inherited pattern hair loss affects millions of people around the world, but effective hair loss remedies and treatment options are typically limited to four medically-approved options: a topical hair solution (minoxidil), an oral medication (finasteride, more commonly known as Propecia), low-level laser therapy and hair transplantation.
Non-Surgical Hair Growth Remedies/ Solutions:

There are two categories of drugs for common hereditary hair loss but only one drug in each category: hair growth stimulators and androgen modulators. The hair growth stimulators are applied topically. They act by adding a positive growth-enhancing substance to the hair follicle. Androgen modulators work by removing a negative substance. This substance is dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the male hormone that is one of the principal factors in male pattern hair loss. DHT is not usually the cause of pattern hair loss in women.

HAIR LOSS: Solutions and Ingredients

Hair loss is a major concern for most people. It is often something that leads to worrying and insecurity, leading people to look at the products on the market. All too often, these treatments will not work as directed or the ingredients will be more harming than helpful. It is possible to avoid these negative side effects, though; it just takes a little research and knowledge. When you go through the brands and reviews, do not forget to go through the ingredient list. Some alopecia areata treatments will only provide you with false hope, no real results. If you want something that provides you with more than just hope, know before you buy.
When looking into remedies, you should always remember the natural methods. If you are looking into a natural alopecia areata treatment, women/men/children must all be able to use it. People of all ages suffer from alopecia but the only way for everyone to receive the highest quality results is for the product to be usable by all people. When you are using an alopecia herbal remedy, it is something that contains no harmful, unneeded chemicals. You want to have your hair back but you do not want to sacrifice your comfort and skin to have it that would not make matters any better. You can have the results you are after without losing a single thing.

The ingredients for this treatment for alopecia, and their effects, are:

Dwarf Nettle (urtica urens):
Helps hair growth and is also known to help with prostate conditions, along with many, many other ailments. Nettles are popular with people from across the globe for treatments and is even used for tea. People use the root and above ground parts as medicine.
Stinging nettle root is used for urination problems related to an enlarged prostate. These problems include nighttime urination, too frequent urination, painful urination, inability to urinate, and irritable bladder.
Stinging nettle root is also used for joint ailments, as a diuretic, and as an astringent.
Stinging nettle above ground parts are used along with large amounts of fluids in so-called “irrigation therapy” for urinary tract infections (UTI), urinary tract inflammation, and kidney stones (nephrolithiasis). The above-ground parts are also used for allergies, hay fever, and osteoarthritis.
Some people use the above ground parts of stinging nettle for internal bleeding, including uterine bleeding, nosebleeds, and bowel bleeding. The above ground parts are also used for anemia, poor circulation, an enlarged spleen, diabetes and other endocrine disorders, stomach acid, diarrhea and dysentery, asthma, lung congestion, rash and eczema, cancer, preventing the signs of aging, “blood purification,” wound healing, and as a general tonic.
Stinging nettle above ground parts are applied to the skin for muscle aches and pains, oily scalp, oily hair, and hair loss (alopecia).
In foods, young stinging nettle leaves are eaten as a cooked vegetable.
In manufacturing, stinging nettle extract is used as an ingredient in hair and skin products.
Stinging nettle leaf has a long history of use. It was used primarily as a diuretic and laxative in ancient Greek times.

European Beech Nut (fagus sylvatica):
Helps with hair growth. Also the tar is stimulating and antiseptic, used internally as a stimulating expectorant in chronic bronchitis, or externally as an application in various skin diseases.

Garlic (allium sativum) :
It has been said for many years that ingredients like garlic help with treatments for alopecia areata. This aids in the removal of toxins and keeping the scalp healthy, which is important when trying to re grow your hair.
Also, Garlic is well known and has been one of the most important medicines in the East and West for over 5,000 years. Known for it’s medicinal action and uses as an diaphoretic, diuretic, expectorant, stimulant, antibacterial, and anti fungal. Wonderful effects and healing powers have been ascribed to garlic. It possesses stimulant and stomachic properties in addition to its other virtues. Garlic an natural penicillin has only 1% of the impact of synthetic penicillin but it is more effective with gram negative bacteria than penicillin. Modern science has done extensive research and explored the chemistry and pharmacology of garlic and with this research proves that garlic is a valuable aid to keep the heart and blood vessels healthy.
In addition to keeping the heart and blood vessels healthy research has proved that garlic lowers you blood pressure, lowers your cholesterol, fends off respiratory infections, infections of the urinary tract and digestive tract.
Besides listed above, “In the controlled and reliable clinical studies animal as well as human, reported in major medical journals world wide in the last couple of decades, garlic has been shown to have almost miraculous preventive and or therapeutic properties in the treatment of variety of diseases.” Here is a partial list of ailments that have been successfully treated by raw garlic or garlic extracts: high blood pressure, atherosclerosis, tuberculosis, diabetes, arthritis, cancer, hypoglycemia, bronchitis, asthma, whooping, pneumonia, common cold, allergies, intestinal worms, intestinal putrefaction and gas, parasitic diarrhea, dysentery and insomnia.
Equally important garlic has been known for its anticancer and tumor properties. Propyline sulfide, a garlic and onion extract found to be mildly effective against tumors, acts on the enzyme liposaminase, related to cancer development if not properly controlled. Dr Benjamin H.S. Lau of the Loma Linda University School of Medicine suggested in 1992 that garlic is a “biological response modifier”; it increases the body’s defenses against cancer. Lau’s research found that garlic’s sulfur compounds boost the activity of macro phages and T-lymphocytes, immune system components that are summoned to destroy tumors. Home remedies for dry hair

Written By Unknown on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 | 9:24 PM

-It is best to avoid hair colouring and ironing during the season. However, if that is next to impossible, at least avoid shampooing during the season.
-Massage the scalp using hot oil. You can either use coconut oil or olive oil for best results
-Do not wash your hair in hot water as it can increase the dryness of the scalp, resulting in flaking and scaling of the skin of the scalp. Use lukewarm water instead and shampoo hair only once or twice a week.
-Use a shampoo and a separate hair conditioner. And leave the conditioner on the tip of the hair avoiding the roots for at least 10 to 15 minutes to moisturise the hair and prevent hair fall.
-The stench apart, beer is a great hair conditioner and so is coconut milk. For a protein packed conditioner, mix eggs and yogurt and rub it into your scalp. Leave on for five or 10 minutes, then wash it off completely.
-A haircut doesn't always have to lead to a new style. Trim off dead ends if your hair is too dry to rejuvenate your hair. Read more

Nurturing new hair growth after cancer

Your breast cancer is finally gone, but due to chemotherapy, so is your hair.

Fortunately, steps can be taken to help the hair recovery process before and after cancer treatments begin, said Pam Garcia, who owns Self Salon in Pensacola with her husband, Carlos.

Hair loss usually begins three to four weeks after the first dose of chemo and usually stops after six to eight weeks. Knowing that hair loss can occur, it’s smart to plan a hair growth treatment system before chemo treatments begin, she said.

Pam, who is also a hair stylist, suggests starting a hair growth treatment plan and taking Biotin before chemo treatments start. Biotin is a water soluble B7 vitamin that is useful in stimulating hair growth. Of course, always consult with your doctor first, she added.

Two growth treatments to consider are Nioxin or Chi Hair Growth Treatment, both of which can be purchased at professional salons. Pam advises using the hair growth treatment a minimum of three times a week.

Our Hair Care Routine | Cute Girls Hairstyles

Written By Unknown on Monday, September 3, 2012 | 8:22 PM

Hair Care is something that is very, very important to us! Among us girls, we have four with thick hair, two with thin, one with oily, one with dry, four with natural waves, one with tight curls, and one stick straight. It is too much for me to detail an individual care routine for each of these situations, but in this video I provide my best general summary of our family hair care…

Before I begin, it is important to understand a few things about hair. Approximately 60% of your hair quality is strictly due to genetics, and the remaining 40% or so depends very much on how you take care of it.

Since there pretty much isn’t anything we can do about the first 60%, it is up to each of us to find what combination fits with the remaining 40% to put our hair in the most ideal, best-looking situation.

Here are a few key steps to consider:

    Drink a lot of water.
Eat healthy foods, especially plenty of fruits and veggies.
Take a multi-vitamin to supplement what you may not be assimilating from your food {and drink milk}. Biotin is also a very good supplement to take.
Regular hair trims {to eliminate dry, damaged, or split ends}. Just the ends, you do not need to take much more off.
Don’t over-wash your hair {about once every 3-4 days is ideal for most}. Trust me on this one. Now, I still shower often, I simply wash my hair every 3-4 days. We just wear a shower cap or tie our hair up into a high hair bun.
Try not to overuse heat or chemicals {perms, colorings, etc}.
